Today I gave myself permission to slow down. No rushing. No deadlines. No radio calls. No notifications demanding my attention.Just me…
A warm cup of coffee. A journal. The gentle sound of water nearby. The scent of flowers drifting through an old Italian street. It’s amazing how uncomfortable peace can feel when you’ve spent so many years living in constant motion. For most of my life I’ve been the one responding to emergencies, solving problems, carrying responsibility, and making sure everyone else was okay. Today I chose something different. I chose stillness. As I sit here, I realize that rest isn’t something you earn after you’ve exhausted yourself. Rest is something your soul quietly asks for long before your body finally gives in. There is something about Italy that reminds me life was never meant to be lived at full speed every single day. People pause. They talk. They enjoy their coffee instead of carrying it to the next obligation. They notice flowers growing through old stone walls. They breathe. Maybe that’s why this place feels like home to a part of me I didn’t know existed. I don’t know exactly where Orion’s Oasis will take me. Maybe it’ll become a place where women find hope. Maybe it’ll become a community. Maybe it’ll simply remind one person that they’re allowed to slow down. Whatever it becomes, I want this space to always feel like today’s afternoon. For me, retirement has not arrived, but I do not have to wait till then, to take time to be still.
Warm. Peaceful. Unhurried. A place where faith is stronger than fear. A place where healing isn’t rushed. A place where it’s okay to simply sit with God and listen. If you’re reading this someday… Welcome. Grab a coffee. Stay awhile. I’m glad you’re here. “Be still, and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
